Overview

This small 19th-century cemetery holds the graves of British colonists who died in Kandy, many from tropical disease, wild elephants or falls. A resident caretaker offers an engaging free tour (a tip is appreciated) of its most poignant headstones.

History

Opened in 1817 shortly after the British took Kandy, it holds 195 graves; the last burial was in 1951.
