An easy hilltop hike rewarded with panoramic views over Ella Gap, tea slopes and the surrounding hill country.

Overview

Named for its resemblance to the sacred Adam's Peak, this gentle summit (about 1,141 m) is one of the easiest and most rewarding walks around Ella. A well-marked path through tea plantations climbs to a series of viewpoints looking out over the Ella Gap, Little Adam's Peak's twin ridges and, on a clear day, the plains far below. The round trip takes only a couple of hours and is popular for sunrise and sunset.

History

The peak's local name, Punchi Sri Pada, links it to Adam's Peak (Sri Pada), the great pilgrimage mountain to the west. The surrounding slopes have been under tea cultivation since the British planting era transformed Uva into a premier tea-growing region.
