概述

阿鲁加姆湾的海滩是一条绵长、轻轻弯曲的沙滩，周围环绕着椰子树，两旁遍布冲浪营地、咖啡馆和宾馆。它的主要吸引力是主浪，这是位于南端的一条长长的右手浪浪，绵延数百米，被认为是亚洲最好的波浪之一。婴儿角 (Baby Point) 以及附近的威士忌角 (Whiskey Point) 和花生农场 (Peanut Farm) 等较为温和的休闲场所适合初学者和中级初学者，而游泳者和日光浴者则可以沿着较为平静的中央沙滩尽情放松。渔船仍然停泊在北端，给海湾一种轻松、工作村的感觉。

历史

Once a quiet fishing beach in the Muslim and Tamil settlement around Pottuvil, Arugam Bay was discovered by travelling surfers in the 1970s. The 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami struck the coast hard, but the beach and its surf economy were rebuilt, and it has hosted international surfing competitions since then, becoming Sri Lanka's premier surf destination.
