Sri Lankan cooking is built on rice and curry, but that phrase undersells it: a proper spread means eight or ten dishes — jackfruit, dhal, beetroot, wing beans, a fiery fish ambul thiyal — each seasoned differently and refilled until you surrender. Breakfast is the island's secret weapon: bowl-shaped hoppers with a runny egg, steamed string hoppers with coconut milk gravy, and kottu roti hammered on a hot plate as the evening soundtrack of every town. Down at Galle Face Green in Colombo, sunset brings isso vadai — prawn-topped lentil fritters — straight off the seafront carts.
Build a trip around the plate: a Colombo street-food evening and a meal in the restored Old Colombo Dutch Hospital, a spice-garden tour near Matale to see cinnamon and pepper growing, a cooking class in a family kitchen near Galle, and crab or seer fish curry on the south coast. Jaffna's distinct Tamil kitchen rewards travellers who venture north.

斯里兰卡购物:10 个市场、购物中心和工艺品站
Sri Lanka's shopping ranges from chaotic bazaars to polished malls, with world-famous exports — Ceylon tea, blue sapphires, spices, batik and handloom textiles — sold a short walk apart in Colombo. Haggle for produce and fabric in Pettah's crowded lanes, browse designer boutiques inside Galle Fort's Dutch-era streets, and buy gems only from certified dealers in Ratnapura or established Colombo jewellers. Most shops open daily; malls run roughly 10am to 10pm.

斯里兰卡丘陵地区 10 个最佳地点
Sri Lanka's hill country is another world: mist rolling over tea terraces, waterfalls beside winding mountain roads, and mornings cool enough for a fireplace. Centred on Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Ella, the highlands reward slow travel — ride the famous blue train between Kandy and Ella, hike to World's End at dawn, and finish the day with a factory-fresh cup of Ceylon tea. December to April brings the clearest mountain views, but the hills are green and walkable year-round.

Sri Lanka's beaches split neatly across two seasons. From December to April the south and west coasts shine: golden crescents like Mirissa and Unawatuna, the long resort sands of Bentota, and the quiet coves around Tangalle enjoy calm seas and blue skies. From May to September the action flips to the east, where Nilaveli's powder-white sand, Pasikuda's shallow reef-sheltered bay, and Arugam Bay's surf come into their own. Whichever month you travel, roughly half the island's coastline is in season, so pick your beach by the calendar and you will rarely be disappointed.

文化三角:斯里兰卡十大古代奇观
Between Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and Kandy lies Sri Lanka's Cultural Triangle — a plain of ancient capitals, colossal stupas and rock fortresses that ruled the island for over two thousand years. In a compact area you can climb Sigiriya's lion-guarded summit, walk the monastic cities where Buddhism first took root, and stand before Gal Vihara's serene granite Buddhas. Most travellers base themselves in Sigiriya, Dambulla or Habarana and cover the triangle in two to four days; every site below is UNESCO-listed or a short drive from one that is.

好问题
What food is Sri Lanka famous for?
Rice and curry above all — a spread of many small vegetable, fish and meat curries — plus hoppers, string hoppers, kottu roti, lagoon crab curry and sambols made with fresh coconut. The island's cinnamon, pepper and Ceylon tea are world famous in their own right.
Is Sri Lankan street food safe to eat?
Generally yes, if you follow the usual rules: choose busy stalls with high turnover, eat food that is cooked fresh and served hot, and stick to bottled or filtered water. Kottu shops and the Galle Face Green carts are a well-trodden first stop.
Is Sri Lanka good for vegetarians and vegans?
Excellent — much of everyday Sri Lankan cooking is plant-based by default, from dhal and jackfruit curry to coconut sambol. Vegetarians can eat superbly everywhere; vegans need only watch for ghee and maldive fish flakes in some dishes.
